Our IoT-Health workshop at IEEE WCNC 2018 in Barcelona went very well with lots of interesting presentations and enthusiastic attendees. Stay tuned for our special issue and future workshops.

IoTHealthHere is a picture of Prof. Kamran Sayrafian giving his opening speech.

Prof. Thomas Brazil

Like every other day when I woke up this morning I checked my phone. Today I saw a message from a friend telling that Prof. Brazil passed away! It was and still is very shocking and unexpected. UCD, CONNECT centre, Ireland and the whole scientific world have lost a brilliant scientist, an excellent teacher, and a very good man. I will be always proud that a man like him trusted me and hired me at my first academic position. I will always remember his advice and our nice chats at UCD Engineering coffee club.

My deepest condolences to his family.

Workshop in IEEE Globecom 18

Our proposal for a workshop on “Intelligent network orchestration and interaction for 5G and beyond” at Globecom 2018 has been accepted.

Our topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
– Economic aspects of network orchestration
– Blockchain and smart contracts for network orchestration and interaction between service and resource providers
– Distributed intelligent multi-agent for network management and interaction between service and resource providers
– Wireless network virtualization
– Network neutrality and regulator aspects of wireless network virtualization
– Theories, models and analyses of access sharing
– Game theory, auction and mechanism design for network virtualization
– Network optimisation and evolutionary computation
-Theories, models and analyses of spectrum sharing frameworks for 5G and beyond.

I will write more about this workshop soon. I have to thank my co-chairs Prof. Linda Doyle, Dr Irene Macaluso and Dr. Mehdi Bennis.

It is a while since my last post. It seems that I was too busy. There are some updates and news:

  1. IRACON meeting in Cyprus went very well. I had a plenary talk presenting Network layer working group reference scenarios on 5G. Our working group had 4 sessions and 16 TDs which made me really proud as the co-chair of this working group.
  2. Our IoT-health workshop will have two full sessions at IEEE WCNC 18 in Barcelona. Our acceptance rate was less than 40%. The quality of the submissions was really high and we are submitting a proposal for a special issue to IEEE IoT journal.
  3. I have been invited to be the Tutorial chair on Crowncom 2018 in Ghent, Belgium. I happily accepted the invitation.
  4. I am going to be the Network softwarisation Track-chair in EuCNC 2019 in Valencia, Spain.

New paper in IEEE WCL

It was almost 3 years ago when an energetic PhD student from Brazil came to CTVR – Trinity College Dublin (now CONNECT centre) to spend a year in Prof. DaSilva’s group. I was a postdoc back then. We had a couple of meetings and our collaboration initiated immediately after that. Marcelo Marotta is a doctor now and our first joint paper has been accepted for publication IEEE Wireless Communications Letters.

I also have to thank my other co-authors, Christiano, Juergen, and Prof. Luiz DaSilva.

I will upload the paper “Characterizing the Relation between Processing Power and Distance between BBU and RRH in a Cloud RAN” here very soon.

IoT-Health workshop in IEEE WCNC 2018

IEEE Wireless communications and networking conference (WCNC) is one of the prestigious conferences in  the area of wireless communications. WCNC 2018 will be in beautiful Barcelona and I am hosting a workshop on IoT-Health together with Dr. Sayrafian, Dr. Katzis and Dr. Ambroziak.

More information about the conference and our workshop are available here and here, respectively. Also you can contact me if you have any question or interested to help us as a reviewer.

Workshop on Economics of network virtualization

Prof. Linda Doyle, Dr. Irene Macaluso and I are organizing a workshop on “Economics of wireless network virtualization”at IEEE PIMRC 2017 in Montreal. It is going to be an exciting event in a beautiful city. Moreover, Prof. Ekram Hossain, University of Manitoba, who is one of the pioneers in this field will deliver a keynote speech at the workshop.

Important dates

  • Deadline for paper submission: 28 July 2017
  • Notification of acceptance: 11 August 2017
  • Camera-ready submission: 18 August 2017

Accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE PIMRC 2017 Conference Proceedings and submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore

4th IRACON management committee meeting and workshop

I am attending 4th IRACON management committee meeting and workshop in Lund. There are a number of interesting presentation and enthusiastic authors. In our action we have people from all over Europe and we also have attendees from Japan and USA.

In this meeting network layer working group (WG3) had two full sessions and one joint session with IoT experimental group.  You can find more information about this event here.

Springer Wireless Networks

Since last week I became a member of Editorial board in Springer Wireless Networks. It is a decent journal that I have been reviewing for them for more than 3 years. I am happy that my expertise and punctuality have been appreciated by the Editor in Chief and other senior editors. I will certainly continue the good work in my new role.
